CE Marking

The letters 'CE' are the abbreviation of the French phrase 'Conformité Européene which means 'European Conformity'.

CE marking on a product is a manufacturers and installers declaration that the product complies with the essential requirements of the relevant European health, safety and environmental protection legislations. Product Directives contain the essential requirements and/or performance levels and Harmonised Standards to which the products must conform. Harmonised Standards are the technical specifications (European Standards or Harmonisation Documents) that are established by several European standards agencies (CEN, CENELEC, etc.). CEN stands for European Committee for Standardisation; CENELEC stands for European Committee for Electrotechnical Standardisation.

CE marking on a product indicates to government officials that the product may be legally placed on the market in their country and ensures the free movement of the product within the EU single market. It also indicates that the product has been manufactured and installed to the required standards, resulting in a safer, more reliable commodity.

If an installer is unable to issue you with a legitimate Declaration of Conformity relating to an electrically operated shutter, it raises a question as to the legality of the product installation as a whole. You are breaking the law if you accept an electrically operated shutter that has not been properly CE marked.

When you receive an electrically operated shutter installation from VBS UK, we will issue you with all relevant CE documentation to prove that you have fulfilled your legal obligations.
